An overview of the most important milestones in Edel's history:
The confectionery handicraft in Donauwörth dates back to the 18th century. This is documented by entries in the city archives. The former mayor, grocer, and confectioner Johann Georg Traber, initiated this tradition. The small confectionary shop in the city center was subsequently passed down through several generations.
Franz Conrad Edel married into the existing business and founded his own company, Edel Bonbon, that same year. The official handover of the business took place on October 28, 1864. At that time, production was still geared toward local demand for small quantities of confectionery.
Birth of Eduard Edel, the man who gave the company its name.
The company suffered a severe setback at the end of the Second World War in April 1945, when the building was completely destroyed in a bombing raid. However, the company boss, Eduard Edel, whose name the company still bears today, was undeterred. In 1946 he relocated the company to a new location in Donauwörth, which still stands today.
After Robert Edel’s death, long-standing employees take over the business.
Eduard Edel GmbH is founded. The management team (Family Lang and Family Wippel) keeps the company on a successful path, continuing to focus on traditional candies, custom-made products and new, innovative sweets.
Completion of extensive three-year construction work, including the addition of a new warehouse (groundbreaking in March 2018) with high-bay storage, new social rooms, a new elevator tower, a new repair shop, ventilation system, and a new roof for production.
The company celebrates its 160th anniversary.
With approximately 250 different varieties of herbal, fruit, and glossy candies, Edel offers one of the most comprehensive product ranges available. As one of the few candy manufacturers in the world, they still master the fine art of producing authentic silky gloss candies. Edel aims to preserve this nostalgia and thereby consciously sets itself apart from mass producers. As a medium-sized company, Eduard Edel GmbH currently employs approximately 60 people and is represented annually at the International Sweets Fair ISM in Cologne.
